Ruby Franklin MSN, RN

Ruby Franklin has 35 years of nursing practice that includes medical/surgical nursing, geriatric nursing, nutritional support, and staff development. She also serves as an adjunct faculty member, teaching nursing leadership courses to BSN students. Thirty of her 35 years of practice has been with the Department of Veterans Affairs, where she has had many opportunities to explore diverse roles for the registered nurse.  Over this expand of time, Ms. Franklin has served as staff nurse, nurse manager, nurse educator, and nutrition support nurse. In 2005, she accepted the position of lead care where she was charged to implement the home telehealth program from its start. Since then, the program has grown and evolved with the changing patient population, technology, and standards of care. She describes this role as one that allows a nurse autonomy in practice, and offers tremendous opportunities to use assessment and management skills while supporting patients and caregivers to gain skills in self-management of chronic disease.
