System Chief Nurse Officer, Sutter Health

Dr. Anna Kiger is system chief nurse officer at Sutter Health in Sacramento, California. She has over 30 years of clinical expertise and more than 20 years of healthcare executive leadership experience. Before arriving at Sutter Health, she served as system chief nurse officer and vice president of patient care services at Tenet Healthcare, an investor-owned health system headquartered in Dallas. In that role, she was responsible for oversight of the system’s nursing executive leadership and clinical practice, enhancing patient and physician satisfaction, achieving center of excellence designations, as well as assisting hospitals in achieving Magnet or Pathways to Excellence designations from the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Earlier in her career, she held the role of adjunct faculty member at Drexel University, where she taught biostatistics to masters’ level students. Currently she serves on the board of directors for MedicAlert Foundation, a non-profit charitable and membership-based organization dedicated to protecting lives by linking members and emergency responders during medical emergencies. Additionally, she serves on the editorial boards for the Journal of Nursing Administration and the Journal of Health Care Risk Management. Dr. Kiger holds a Doctor of Nursing Practice from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, School of Nursing, in Lubbock, Texas. She holds a second Doctor of Science in public health and health services research from Tulane University’s School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine in New Orleans. Additionally, she earned master’s degrees in business administration from Averett University in Danville, Virginia and nursing administration from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh. Dr. Kiger obtained her undergraduate nursing education at West Virginia University’s School of Nursing in Morgantown, West Virginia.
