Lisa Balsam is a Clinical Coding Educator for InterMed PA in Portland, Maine, where she educates providers and clinical staff on the business of healthcare, coding, and compliance. She has over 20 years of nursing experience in all aspects of patient care, from bed side nurse to management. As a certified risk adjustment coder, she understands the inherent coding issues as they relate to business practices in health care. Balsam has been instrumental in creating a nurse driven model to not only close gaps in patient care, but also in re-validating chronic condition diagnosis, which gives payers an overall better picture of a patient’s disease burden.
