123 - Evolving Primary Care Nursing Telephone Triage Protocol Content into Specialty Clinic Needs

Telephone triage protocol usage as a decision support tool and to help guide nursing judgment is essential for all clinic nurses because telephone triage is a high-risk nursing practice. With a known lack of specialty protocols, specialty clinic nurses verbalized their frustration in using primary care protocols because they were too generic for their care area. This presentation addresses the development of nurse-led, high quality, standardized specialty content into nursing telephone triage protocols.
