In most states medical assistants are unlicensed allied health professionals who work under direct/onsite licensed providers (e.g. physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants) authority and supervision in outpatient settings. This presentation discusses tasks delegable to medical assistants, the supervision requirements for the delegating licensed providers, and the impact of federal laws and certain state laws on medical assisting scope of responsibility.
