Evaluating Efficiency in Flow of Care Across a Practice Model Transition

Advanced practice nurses are on the cutting edge of health care reform and poised to play a vital role. This retrospective study of three practice models includes time-motion data to determine potential efficiency issues that contribute to increased time in flow of care procedures as well as decreased access to health care.

• Determine how efficiency of flow at an internal medicine clinic can reduce access to primary health care at a practice in southwest Virginia.
• Assess the level of efficiency in three types of practice models: intertwined, individual, and separate.
• Examine the relevance to health care reform.
