Dramatic changes and advances in health information technology (HIT) are making health care safer, more efficient, and more patient-centered. In addition, patients are more informed (and sometimes more misinformed) than ever before. Your ability to embrace these evolving technologies and continue providing quality nursing care is of the utmost importance. This session discusses the challenges involved with selecting and implementing new information systems (including electronic medical records), addresses strategies to integrate informatics principles into ambulatory care nursing practice, reviews legalities surrounding these new technologies, and helps ambulatory care nurses engage in this time of change.
