In these short rapid-fire presentations, multiple speakers highlight approaches to managing issues related to medical assistants in the practice environment.

Partnerships and Pipelines: Addressing Medical Assistant Staffing Voids
Staffing can be a challenge in ambulatory care clinics, especially for certified medical assistants (CMA). This session shares how, in order to fill gaps in staffing, one health system partnered with a community college to create a 12-month MA residency program to prepare individuals with little-to-no patient care experience for a clinical role.

Building a Medical Assistant Workforce: Training Approaches and Impacts on Retention, Career Progression, and Care Delivery
This session explores the benefits and challenges of three strategies used to secure a high-functioning MA workforce: internal training programs, the role of serving as a clinical placement site for a traditional MA program, and partnership with a school focused on preparing MAs for a team-based primary care setting. Attendees learn talking points to advocate for a new MA training model, best practices in MA training, and strategies for MA retention and career ladder development.
