Although sound evidence regarding the role of the registered nurse in the practice of telephone triage has existed in the literature for well over a decade, clinical practice has not kept up, often resulting in unsafe care. This session identifies practice gaps and present strategies for effectively bringing clinical practice into line with the evidence. Together, these topics present landmark perspectives that can be used in development and application of telephone triage standards in the future.
