Michigan Medicine is a large tertiary academic center with over 2 million outpatient visits annually at over 150 sites providing both primary and specialty care. Ambulatory care nursing saw opportunity to initiate, develop, and enhance a new process for embedding nurse- and MA-driven protocols into the electronic health record. This work ensured that best practices were being followed and the registered nurse was working to top of licensure and unlicensed personnel remained within the scope of the practice. You will learn how to manage and standardize protocols while meeting regulatory standards within your organization. This presentation will describe results that yielded a reduction in practice pattern variation and unnecessary associated costs.
