Pain Management in the Era of the Opioid Epidemic: What Do We Do Now?

Current controversies regarding pain management of the patient undergoing urologic procedures are provided in this lecture. Options that provide better pain relief while minimizing opioid-related adverse effects are discussed. Factors that contribute to poor pain management, persistent postoperative pain, and opioid addiction are highlighted. Participants will be able to take away several strategies that will improve their care of the urologic patient with pain.
