An Old Nursing Skill with New Guidelines: The Intramuscular Injection – One Hospital’s Struggle. What is Your Practice?: Administering an intramuscular injection (IM) is a basic nursing skill, but the majority of nurses do not perform this task according to best practice guidelines. This presentation shares the experience of one hospital in developing a new policy, procedure, and teaching plan to ensure compliance, as well as the lessons learned from implementation.

Improving Aseptic Technique Practices in the Ambulatory Procedural Areas: This session explores the efforts of one institution to improve aseptic technique practices in ambulatory procedural areas. After inconsistent practices were identified, a plan to develop an educational program based on evidence for all current and new nursing staff in procedural areas and a nursing policy on the technique was implemented. We discuss the methods used to identify issues and the plan used to implement change and share our experience to help other institutions facing the same issues within their own practice.
