This session focuses on assessing the perceived and actual knowledge of diabetes mellitus of the staff nurse. Recognized as a national epidemic, diabetes mellitus presents significant implications for patient care, nursing practice, and nursing education. The presenters share results of a descriptive study that can be used to plan and implement strategies to promote nursing team education.
Learning Objectives:
Describe the study process including methods, data analysis, results and implications for nursing practice.
Illustrate the role of the staff nurse and other disciplines working collaboratively with the diabetes nurse educator in caring for patients with diabetes to improve health outcomes.
