Sheila Wheeler haspioneered telephone triage as a frontline practitioner, guideline developer,researcher, author, expert witness, and consultant since 1985. In 1993,she authored the first training manual for telephone triage and best-sellingclassic, Telephone Triage: Theory, Practice and Protocol Development. In 1994,Sheila founded the first national telephone triage conference, and servedannually as conference developer, chairperson, and guest speaker for 8years. She also served as editor-in-chief for the firstage-specific, patient-centered, three-volume set of guidelines, Telephone Triage Protocols for Pediatricand Adult Populations. In 2015, Sheila authored Safety of Clinical and Non-clinicalDecision Makers in Telephone Triage, published in the Journal ofTelemedicine and Telecare.
